Warner/Chappell (WCM), the global music publishing arm of Warner Music Group, together with Girl Scouts of the USA, announced today the launch of the organization’s first ever original song thanks to the help from two WCM/Liz Rose Music songwriters – the Grammy Award-winning Liz Rose (Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw, Little Big Town) and Emily Shackelton (Reba McEntire, David Cook, Cassadee Pope) – along with Girl Scouts singing backup vocals. The new song, “Watch Me Shine,” will be spotlighted in Girl Scouts new PSA “I’m Prepared,” which debuted on November 29 and celebrates every girl’s inner G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™. Applauding girls who never give up, who try new things, and who make their ideas a reality, the PSA and anthem represent how Girl Scouts prepares every G.I.R.L. to practice leadership like a Girl Scout––uniquely encouraging girls to cultivate grit, problem-solving, risk-taking, and leading with empathy.
“We are so pleased to collaborate with Girl Scouts of the USA on a message of empowerment for young women,” said Ben Vaughn, Executive Vice President of Warner/Chappell Nashville. “Liz and Emily have truly created a song for G.I.R.L.s everywhere with ‘Watch Me Shine’.”
“Music has always been an integral part of Girl Scout tradition and an important tool for bringing people together,” said Lynn Godfrey, chief marketing and communications officer, Girl Scouts of the USA. “‘Watch Me Shine’ is a rallying cry for G.I.R.L.s to lead in their everyday lives. We anticipate this song will inspire girls to empower themselves, go outside of their comfort zones, and conquer any obstacle they face, the Girl Scout way.”
Songwriters Liz Rose and Emily Shackelton are both signed to Liz Rose Music, a joint publishing venture with Warner/Chappell. The female-owned company, Breakthrough Music, was instrumental in the production of the song and working with the Girl Scouts on a new music distribution model.
“We commend Girl Scouts of the USA for leveraging music as a strategic tool to encourage engagement,” added Juliet Shavit, Co-founder of Breakthrough Music.
